Public Service with Purpose

The late Mr. Bashiruddin Babukhan was a Cabinet Minister who held the portfolios of Higher Education, Major Industries, Tourism, and Minorities Welfare between 1989 and 1994. His keen interest in social development, education, and women’s empowerment led him to associate with numerous welfare organisations as a founder, chairman, trustee, or member.

Born in Hyderabad in 1941, he hailed from a well-known family of industrialists and businessmen of Andhra Pradesh. He graduated from Osmania University’s Nizam College before joining the family business.

Besides being a businessman par excellence, Mr. Bashiruddin Babukhan led an active cultural, social, and political life. Having been associated with numerous social and educational organisations in various capacities, he founded the Hyderabad Education Academy with the vision of steering Indian youth towards economic prosperity.

Mr. Bashiruddin Babukhan carried forward the legacy of his father. He pioneered the construction of multistoreyed commercial and residential complexes, town houses, and land-development projects. Standing testimony to this commitment to excellence are Deccan Towers, Mogul Court, Babukhan Estate, Asafjahi Tower, and Babukhan Millennium Centre, along with more than 20 other major projects across the city.

His legacy lives not only in landmark institutions and structures, but also in the opportunities he created for young people to learn, grow and prosper.
